Free AI — a free AI chatbot

Free AI is a powerful AI assistant that is completely free. Ask anything by typing or talking to it, search the web and get sources, read and analyse your files, write and run code, reason through hard problems, and understand or edit images. No credit card, no subscription, no trial that ends — Free AI stays free by running on free model tiers.

Start instantly at getfree-ai.com — use it as a guest, or create a free account to save your chats and let Free AI remember context between conversations.

What Free AI can do

What is free, and what the limits are

Chat itself is unlimited. Fair-use caps apply only to the parts that genuinely cost servers money:

Free AI never sells your data.

Which AI models power Free AI

Free AI picks the best fit for each question from a chain of free models across seven providers — Cerebras, Google Gemini Flash, Groq, Cloudflare Workers AI, NVIDIA-hosted Nemotron and Llama, OpenRouter and Mistral — and fails over to the next provider when one is overloaded or out of free quota. Gemini Flash handles images and very long chats; the large Nemotron model handles hard reasoning.

Your account and signing in

An account is optional: you can start instantly as a guest. Creating a free account saves your chats and lets Free AI remember context across conversations.

Download Free AI for your computer

The Free AI desktop app puts a system-wide shortcut on your computer: press Ctrl+Q from any app — Word, Chrome, VS Code, games — and the AI bar opens instantly over what you are doing. It is under 10 MB, runs no background processes when you are not using it, and updates automatically.

If macOS says Free AI cannot be opened

Free AI is distributed independently and is not notarized by Apple, so macOS can stop a fresh install with “Free AI cannot be opened” or “Free AI is from an unidentified developer”. This does not mean the app is corrupted. Work through these steps in order — almost everyone only needs the first one or two, and the Terminal method at the end is a last resort.

  1. Open it manually. Go to Applications, right-click (or Control-click) Free AI, click Open, and if macOS shows another warning click Open again.
  2. Privacy & Security. Try opening Free AI once, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security, find the message saying Free AI was blocked, click Open Anyway and confirm. You normally only need to do this once.
  3. Terminal (last resort). Only use this if you downloaded Free AI from the official website. Press Command (⌘) + Space, search for Terminal and press Enter, then run this exact command: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Free AI.app" and open Applications → Free AI again. If the command says the app does not exist, run ls -ld "/Applications/Free AI.app": if it prints information about the application then it is installed correctly; if it says “No such file or directory”, drag Free AI into Applications from the .dmg again.

Important security note: never tell anyone to disable Gatekeeper globally, for example with sudo spctl --master-disable. The Terminal workaround only removes the quarantine attribute from Free AI.app, rather than disabling macOS security for the whole computer.

Once the app opens, press Ctrl+Q from any app to ask Free AI anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Free AI actually free?

Yes — really free. No credit card, no subscription, no trial that ends. It stays free by running entirely on free model tiers: Cerebras, Google Gemini Flash, Groq, Cloudflare Workers AI, NVIDIA, OpenRouter and Mistral.

What limits exist?

Chat itself is unlimited. Fair-use caps apply to the parts that genuinely cost servers money: 10 web searches per day, 1 deep-research mode per day, 3 news searches per day, and a few premium image generations per day (the app automatically switches to backup image providers once that is used up).

Do I need an account?

No — you can start instantly as a guest. Creating a free account just saves your chats and lets Free AI remember context across conversations.

Which AI model powers it?

A chain of free models across seven providers: Cerebras, Google Gemini Flash, Groq, Cloudflare Workers AI, NVIDIA-hosted Nemotron and Llama, OpenRouter and Mistral. Free AI picks the best fit for each question — Gemini Flash for images and very long chats, the big Nemotron for hard reasoning — and fails over to the next provider when one is overloaded or out of free quota.

Can I upload PDFs and other files?

Yes. PDFs, Word documents, Excel sheets, PowerPoints, plain text, ZIP archives and images — Free AI reads the contents and answers based on them. Images are analysed, described or edited by a vision model.

Can it search the internet?

Yes — with live sources. Ask anything current and Free AI searches the web and cites where it found the answer.

Is my data stored?

Chats are saved to your account so they're remembered — you can delete them whenever you like, and temporary chats aren't saved at all. Free AI never sells your data.

Who runs Free AI?

Is Free AI safe?

Free AI refuses illegal or harmful requests, filters threats and hate from support messages, and keeps conversations on your account only.

Privacy Policy

Read the full policy at https://getfree-ai.com/privacy. Free AI processes what it needs to run the service and keep it safe: your account data (email address, username, display name, language preference and a one-way hash of your password), the content you create (chats, memories, text extracted from files, and images or videos you generate or upload), uploaded files until their text has been extracted, support messages, integration tokens stored encrypted, usage and security counters, and error and moderation logs. Storage in your browser holds the sign-in token, your theme choice, the accepted-terms flag, a random device id used to block brute-force attacks, an anonymous online-status id, and the Quick Ask bar position. Data is used to provide the service, to keep it secure and abuse-free, and to meet legal obligations; it is not sold. You have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection, and requests go to official.getfreeai@gmail.com.

The live “users online” figure on the home page uses a random id generated by your browser together with the time it was last seen — no IP address, no user agent, no page you visited and no content — and the record is deleted minutes after your visit ends.
